Advisory Group Appointed for Yarrawonga Town Hall's Future

Following an unscheduled Council Meeting on Tuesday 30 April, Moira Shire Council has appointed 14 members of the community to the Yarrawonga Town Hall Future Use Advisory Group (The Advisory Group)

The Advisory Group has been established to provide vital guidance on the future use and users of the Yarrawonga Town Hall, marking a significant step forward in the progression of Yarrawonga Library, Events and Performance Precinct project. The comprising community members and representatives from various community organisations will assist Council to inform the scope and deliverables of the Stage 2 Works which features the redevelopment of the Town Hall.

Moira Shire Council Panel of Administrator Chair, John Tanner AM said the community engagement, in reactivating the Town Hall was critical.

"The Yarrawonga community treasures the Town Hall, and it is crucial that we gather as many thoughts and ideas as possible about its future uses."

"The Advisory group will serve as a vital mechanism to gather community insights and perspectives crucial for determining the long-term functionalities of the Town Hall.

"The appointed Advisory Group includes people from various backgrounds, ensuring diverse community representation. We strongly encourage the community to be a part of the engagement process and provide input to assist Council in reactivating this much-loved facility and restoring such a significant community landmark."

"As we approach the centenary of the Town Hall, it is important that Council, together with the community, achieve a thoughtful plan to redevelop the facility, ensuring its legacy will be fit for an additional 100 years to come," Mr Tanner said.

The Advisory Group is made up of:

  • Two Yarrawonga/Mulwala community residents.
  • Eight groups or organisations that have previously utilised the Town Hall facilities.
  • Two representatives of community groups or organisations that have not previously used the Town Hall but could do so in the future.
  • One Representative of Moira Shire All Abilities Advisory Committee.
  • One Representative of the Goulburn Valley Libraries.

The Advisory Group will invite, two student representatives, from the local secondary schools to join and represent the voices of the community's young people and future users of the Town Hall.

The first meeting of the Advisory Group members and Council is expected to occur on Thursday 30 May 2024.
