Arrest following Brunswick firearms incident

Police have arrested a man in relation to an alleged firearms incident in Brunswick this morning on Colebrook Street, Victoria Police say.

Officers were called to a premises about 9.50am after reports that a man had discharged a firearm.

The man then left the scene and an investigation commenced.

Police intercepted a car on Calder Freeway near Taylors Lakes about 11.25am.

The driver of the car shot himself in the stomach as police approached the car.

He has been arrested and taken to hospital suffering serious injuries.

Police believe the driver is the same person involved in the Brunswick incident.

No injuries to the police or other members of the public have been reported.
