Bayside Gallery was filled with art enthusiasts today as it unveiled its latest photography exhibitions Somewhere to someone and Threshold, a showcase of local talent that completes our 2022 exhibition program.
Bayside Gallery curator, Joanna Bosse, discussed her vision behind these exhibitions.
"I wanted to showcase the exceptional work of five Bayside-based photographers across two exhibitions that demonstrate the diversity of approaches to photography and the moving image. Each artist brings a unique vision and while their practices are divergent, there are thought-provoking conversations between the works which create a richly rewarding viewing experience," Bosse said.
Somewhere to someone features artists Mark Forbes and Rowena Meadows, who both work within the genre of documentary photography and find beauty in the everyday. This exhibition brings the works of these two artists together in a visual conversation around presence and absence, and the beautiful moments of our lived experience that give us pause and reflection.
Threshold encompasses the disparate practices of senior film maker/animator Dirk de Bruyn, photographer Guy Grabowsky, and photographer/printmaker Mat Hughes. These artists share an interest in constructing photographic and filmic imagery through analogue processes, manually engaging with the processing phase to create images in dialogue with traditional techniques.
Bayside Mayor Cr Alex del Porto spoke of the 2022 exhibition program and the wonderful job Bayside Gallery has done in connecting the community with a wide variety of art.
"Bayside Gallery is a creative pillar within our community and plays an important role in nurturing and promoting creativity in the arts in all its forms," del Porto said.
Both exhibitions are on display at Bayside Gallery until 18 December 2022. Entry is free and walk-ins welcome. Stay in the loop on Arts & Culture news and events by subscribing to our eNewsletter.
