Bega Valley Council Hit by After-Hours Provider Data Breach

Bega Valley Shire Council has been notified of a data breach from its after-hours customer service provider, OracleCMS.

When people call the Council customer service line outside business hours, the call is diverted to OracleCMS who takes the call on Council's behalf.

Council is working with OracleCMS to determine the exact extent of the data breach and is aware several other local and city councils have been impacted by the breach.

Council can confirm that OracleCMS does not have access to customer financial data or bank account details.

Council can also confirm that no Bega Valley Shire Council customer data has been compromised.

OracleCMS is working with government authorities to investigate the incident.

Council's CEO, Anthony McMahon said Council takes the privacy of its customers very seriously.

"We have ceased using the OracleCMS service and will operate our after-hours service inhouse," Mr McMahon said.

"We will continue this while the cause is investigated and until we are satisfied OracleCMS is adequately mitigating the risk."
