Bendigo Council Mulls Over Regional Sports Program

A report to the April Council meeting will ask Council to endorse the proposed delivery models to upgrade the Bendigo Stadium, Bendigo Showgrounds, and Bendigo Bowls Club and Bendigo Croquet Club facilities, to be funded through the Victorian Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.

Following the cancellation of the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games, the Victorian Government committed to deliver infrastructure upgrades to a number of venues across the state that were due to host competition sporting events.

Through discussions with the Victorian Government, it is recommended Development Victoria oversee the Bendigo Stadium and Bendigo Showgrounds projects, and the City of Greater Bendigo deliver the Bendigo Bowls Club and Bendigo Croquet Club upgrades.

The proposed scope of works for each project includes:

Refurbishment of two existing courts

Utility upgrades, solar panels and backup generator

Lighting to outdoor netball courts

Carpark and accessibility improvements

Bendigo Lawn Bowls / Bendigo Croquet Club

Refurbishment of four bowls greens and two croquet courts

Refurbishment of existing clubhouse

Accessibility and circulation improvements

Stakeholders for each of the venues have been engaged in the delivery model process. Each project will be delivered through funding from the Victorian Government.

All projects are expected to be completed in 2026.
