Boat fire, man injured, NSW

A man has been injured after a boat fire on Lake Macquarie this afternoon, NSW Police say.

About 1.10pm today (Saturday 23 June 2018), police were called to a yacht club on Ada Street, Belmont, following reports of an explosion on a boat moored at the marina.

Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW extinguished to the blaze.

A 59-year-old Belmont man, and sole occupant of the boat, was treated at the scene by paramedics for burns to his face and hands, before being taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The yacht club was evacuated as a precaution.

Officers from the Marine Area Command, with assistance from Lake Macquarie Police District, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
