Body found in search for missing swimmer near Mildura

Police divers have found the body of a man who went missing while swimming in the Murray River on the NSW/Victorian border.

About midday on Friday (25 December 2020), emergency services were called to the river at Liparoo, about 90km south east of Mildura, after the 28-year-old Sri Lankan National, was seen to disappear under the water and not resurface.

Officers from Barrier Police District attended and commenced a search of the area with assistance from the State Emergency Service.

Following searches, police divers found the man's body in the river about 5.30pm today (Sunday 27 December 2020).

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
