Canada Pumps $379.5K Into NW Ontario Youth Internships

Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario - FedNor

FedNor funds will help develop and expand specialized young talent in the region by fostering connections between youth applicants and subject matter experts and industries

Marcus Powlowski, Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay-Rainy River, today announced a FedNor investment of $379,500 in support of youth internship opportunities in Northwestern Ontario. FedNor's investment will support 24 placements over a three-year period. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor, and Member of Parliament for Thunder Bay-Superior North.

The funding will support the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre (NOIC) in delivering their Youth Effect Program, which provides learning opportunities for youth by matching them with subject matter experts (SMEs) to work on innovative projects through 15-week placements. As part of the Youth Effect Program, NOIC works directly with local SMEs to create strategic matches with youth based on interests and skills. Participating youth and organizations must be physically located in Northwestern Ontario.

Through the 24 placements, this investment will help develop specialized skills and knowledge for youth in the region. Additional anticipated benefits include the maintenance of critical strategic alliances in Northwestern Ontario, and the development of regional businesses, products, processes, services, and/or technologies.
