CUIMC Employees Participate In Relay Marathon

More than 200 employees participated in the CUIMC Team Relay Marathon at The Armory last week. At the relay race event, which also included teams outside of Columbia, teams of two to eight runners took turns running a combined 26.2 miles on The Armory's 200-meter indoor track. CUIMC had 32 teams of 208 runners competing in the medical & health care division.

Several teams that participated took home prizes. The overall winner and top women's team for the division was the Eating Disorder Research Unit (Emily Lloyd, Courtney Breiner, Cynthia Mikula, Mae Winglass, and Caroline Touzeau) in 2:57:03. The top coed team was the Columbia Population Research Center (Alex Chui and Bojana Vasikj) in 3:13:46. The top men's team was CancerBiology (Hee Won Yang, Sungsoo Kim, Wanwei Zhang, and Eugene Son) in 3:24:15.

CUIMC also set several overall event records in the medical & health care division:

  • Coed Team: Columbia Population Research Center (3:13:46)
  • Men's 4-Person Team: CancerBiology (3:24:15)
  • Women's 8-Person Team: COVID-19 Mother Baby Outcomes Study (3:41:07) (Ruiyang Xu, Imaal Ahmed, Nicole Shearman, Katrina Fuller, Jen Warmingham, Elena Arduin, Andreane Lavallee, and Marissa Lanoff)

"This event is a testament to our vibrant campus and the team spirit that brings us all together," says Neil McClure, , chief human resources officer at CUIMC. "We received an overwhelming response to the invitation, promptly filling our available spots. Gathering for a shared purpose strengthens our community and and reinforces the bonds that we have with each other and our campus, which is an important part of well-being."

The event was open to runners of all experience levels, and registration was free to Columbia employees through CUIMC's sponsorship of the event. CUIMC's sponsorship of the event also supported Armory College Prep and The Armory Foundation's youth and athletic programs.
