Cyclist dies following crash in Ballina

A cyclist died following a crash in Ballina yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 9.20am yesterday, emergency services were called to the Pacific Highway at Ballina, near the Tamarind Drive overpass, following reports of a crash.

Initial investigations suggest a Mitsubishi Outlander and a cyclist, both travelling north on the Pacific Highway, collided.

As a result of the collision, the rider of the bicycle, a 59-year-old man, died at the scene.

The driver of the Mitsubishi, an 81-year-old man, was taken to Ballina Hospital for mandatory blood and urine analysis.

A crime scene was established and investigations are continuing. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
