Drugs and prohibited weapons found during vehicle stop in Albury

A man will face court after a number of prohibited weapons and drugs were located during a vehicle stop in Albury, NSW Police say.

About 12.30am today police attached to Albury Local Area Command were travelling south on East Street, Albury when they stopped a vehicle, after it narrowly avoided colliding with the police vehicle.

After speaking with the 34-year-old male driver and his female passenger, officers conducted a search of the vehicle and allegedly located two small bags of a crystal substance suspected to be methamphetamine, and a number of prohibited weapons including two sets of knuckle dusters, handcuffs and an extendable baton.

The man was arrested and taken to Albury Police Station.

Following further inquiries, police from Albury Local Area Command executed a search warrant at the man’s home in Albury.

He was charged with a number of prohibited weapon offences including:-

  • 12 counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without a permit,
  • possess ammunition without holding a licence/permit,
  • two counts of custody of knife in a public place,
  • handle explosive/precursor without authorising licence,
  • four counts of possess housebreaking implements, and possess prohibited drug

He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today, tomorrow.
