Emergency Crews Responding To House Fire, Wurtulla

One man is in custody as investigations continue into a house fire in Wurtulla this morning, May 8.

Emergency services were called to Baroona Street around 6am to reports a vehicle was on fire, which then spread to the house.

Firefighters extinguished the fire but adjoining residents were evacuated due to the smoke.

A man, woman and child that were inside at the time of the fire escaped without physical injuries.

Police patrolled the area and located a man in a car nearby who is known to the people in the house.

Police also found three firearms in the vehicle.

That man was taken into custody and continues to assist police with investigations.

Two crime scenes have been declared - one at the house and a second at the car found nearby.

Investigations are ongoing.
