Gillian Anderson joins "American Gods" Neil Gaiman's novel adaptation

- Gillian Anderson joins "American Gods". "The X-Files" star is announced to play a key role in Starz's adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel. She reunites with "Hannibal" creator Bryan Fuller who will serve as a showrunner alongside Michael Green for the new show, AceShowbiz reports.

The actress will play "Media, the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens-to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her."

The show will depict a war between gods; the ones from the traditional mythological world and the others from modern society that reflect love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. The cast include Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Ricky Whittle, Jonathan Tucker and Pablo Schreiber.
