Girl trapped under car as drunk teens fight near Wollongong

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a car and pedestrian crash at Blackbutt, south of Wollongong today.

Just before 1am today, police from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command were called to Greenwood Place and Blackbutt Way, following reports of youths fighting and a girl trapped underneath a car, NSW Police say.

On arrival, police found a group of 10 intoxicated youths fighting and a 16-year-old girl trapped underneath a blue Mitsubishi sedan.

Officers dispersed the teens and contacted Police Rescue to extract the girl from underneath the car.

A short time later, rescue officers were able to release the girl.

She was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to St George Hospital in a serious condition.

A crime scene has been established and specialist crash investigators have been requested to attend.

A 19-year-old man driving the Mitsubishi allegedly provided a positive breath-test at the scene and has been taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he is currently assisting police with inquiries.

Investigations into the incident are continuing and police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact Lake Illawarra Police  or Crime Stoppers.
