Good Samaritan stabbed on Yarra Promenade

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after a man was stabbed on Yarra Promenade just before midnight, Victoria Police say.

The 24-year-old man, who had just finished work at a nearby restaurant, went to the assistance of a woman who was being assaulted by another man.

As the victim attempted to intervene, the man produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the left side of his abdomen.

Following the stabbing, the offender ran off along Yarra Promenade while the victim approached a nearby parking attendant for help.

Police believe the offender was approaching people, walking along the promenade, trying to instigate a fight prior to the stabbing.

He is described as being approximately180cm tall and wearing a black & white cap, a grey long-sleeve top with a large navy blue, red and white Tommy Hilfiger motif, dark blue shorts and white runners.

He was also carrying a black satchel, worn across his chest.

Anyone with information or who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
