Gov Seeks Public Input on Digital Industries Boost Strategy

  • Government releases draft Digital Industries Acceleration Strategy for public consultation
  • Strategy to accelerate the digital transformation and uplift of local businesses and industries
  • Public consultation is open until May 10 with the final strategy launched later this year

The Cook Government's draft Digital Industries Acceleration Strategy is out for public consultation, with a goal to support and empower digitally enabled Western Australian businesses.

The strategy, which is titled WA: Digitally Evolved, was developed after extensive scoping work identified how successful and thriving digital industries played a pivotal role in building a larger digital economy, with digital government and digital society being the other two pillars.

Research shows that highly digitally engaged businesses earn 60 per cent more revenue per employee and are expected to grow 28 per cent faster than businesses with poor digital engagement.

The draft strategy has been released seeking public feedback on the proposed approach and to identify any other ways the Government can work with stakeholders in the digital ecosystem to achieve a digitally empowered economy.

As stated by Innovation and the Digital Economy Minister Stephen Dawson:

"We live in a fast-paced digital world with emerging digital technologies expected to add hundreds-of-billions of dollars to the Australian economy by 2028.

"The Cook Government has been actively supporting and working closely with WA's digital and innovative businesses and industries to ensure they are well positioned to take advantage of these incredible opportunities.

"We have boosted WA's digital economy through the launch of our Digital Government Strategy and the Digital Inclusion Blueprint and now we're taking another major step forward with the release of our Digital Industries Acceleration Strategy.

"I encourage anyone, especially those in the digital sector and small to medium enterprises, to provide feedback on this draft strategy to so we can ensure the best possible outcomes can be achieved."
