As part of an ongoing police investigation, human remains located by bush walkers in the Huon Valley on 9 July 2017 have been positively identified as Swiss National, Thomas Münger, Tasmania Police say.
44-year-old Mr Münger left Switzerland in 2010.
Mr Münger’s extended family have been notified of the identification.
The cause of Mr Münger’s death remains undetermined.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have had contact with Mr Münger in late 2010 or early 2011.
Examination of the scene at the time of locating Mr Münger’s remains suggested he may have been bushwalking but was not adequately prepared for an overnight journey.
Tasmania Police remain in contact with Interpol and authorities in Switzerland as part of their ongoing investigation.
Anyone with information that may help police to determine Mr Münger’s movements in Tasmania is asked to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 from within Tasmania, or 1800 765 827 from interstate.
