The Tasmanian Liberal Government is bringing health services to patients in their home and relieving pressure on our hospitals with the launch of the Launceston General Hospital's Hospital In The Home – North service.
Minister for Health, Mental Health, and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, said the launch of the Northern service was another important step in the Government's long-term plan to increase hospital capacity.
"This service is about providing safe, in-home care that is flexible, responsive, and tailored to the individual's needs while also relieving demand pressure by freeing up beds at the LGH," Minister Barnett said.
"Bringing hospital-level care to patients within the community is an important part of our long-term plan for transforming the delivery of health care in Tasmania.
"Tasmanians can be seen in the comfort of their own home, seven days a week, by a highly skilled healthcare team of allied health, nursing, pharmacy and medical specialist staff.
"While this service initially provides for four virtual beds, this is set to be expanded to 11 beds in total by 31 May 2024.
"Building a better health system by ensuring patients get the care they need when and where they need it is an important part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, and we know this will help optimise patient flow within the health system."
The service provides a single point of referral and a single point of contact for patients, carers, families, and health care providers.
