And we're just getting started. Our January events will continue to energise the community across our public spaces and provide a boost for our local traders.
Summer Sessions kicked off on Friday 17 December at Cleve Gardens in St Kilda. The launch event marked the beginning of 12 weeks of creative activities across three locations at Cleve Gardens in St Kilda, Burnett Grey Gardens in Ripponlea, and Town Hall Reserve in South Melbourne..
We opened with a taste of what's to come with live music and a neon light installation alongside speeches from Mayor Marcus Pearl, a Welcome to Country featuring a Smoking Ceremony and local traders to feed you.
Attendees enjoyed live music courtesy of Orlando Jazz Combo who bought their unique blend of jazz, swing, rhythm and blues, bossa nova, lounge, Motown, boogaloo and soul to Burnett Grey Gardens.
Our upcoming events will continue to inject that summer energy across our three gardens with a fantastic program that has something for everyone's taste with local traders on hand for all your food and drink needs.
Cleve Gardens (St Kilda)
On Saturday 15 January, Cleve Gardens will host live music from Pal Mar from 1 pm to 3 pm. Pal Mar is Colombian band that explores a variety of Latin American genres and rhythms. Their music is marked by a fusion of genres and languages in their performances, including Spanish, Portuguese, French and English.
Pal Mar mix a variety of Latin styles and pop, without leaving behind their Colombian influence and soulful compositions.
On Sunday 16 January you can enjoy even more live music as we welcome Bernadette Novembre to Cleve Gardens from 1 pm to 3 pm. Bernadette has been in the Melbourne music scene for four years. Bernadette is following up her previously released EP in the soul genre with her debut full length album which sees her moving into alternative / indie rock.
Her new music can be described as a mix of late 1960's rock with modern indie / alternative rock. Industry greats have described Bernadette's new music as 'Avant-Indie Alt Rock on the dreamscape'.
Town Hall Reserve (South Melbourne)
On Saturday 15 January, Town Hall Reserve will nerve centre for family fun in the City from 12 midday to 3 pm with fun activities for kids and grown-up kids alike.
Show off your footy skills with our inflatable handball game or hone your creative skills with our Lego workshop.
The inimitable Karin, Queen of Rock Uke will provide the soundtrack to the day with her unique blend of high-energy, ukulele-infused crowd-pleasers of 70s and 80s heavy metal and rock.
Burnett Grey Gardens (Ripponlea)
From 12 midday to 3 pm, on Saturday 15 January, Burnett Grey Gardens will host one of the country's leading cartoonists, caricaturists, illustrators and authors. Paul Harvey's lightning-quick caricatures will be sound tracked by live music from the Orlando Jazz Combo who return with their blend of jazz, swing, rhythm and blues, bossa nova, lounge, Motown, boogaloo and soul.
We'll be back with more live music on Sunday 16 January with Melbourne-based singer songwriter Megan Kennedy. Megan takes inspiration across a set of genres as far reaching as folk, alt-rock and cheesy pop, resulting in a repertoire of contemplative 'story-telling' songs laced with breezy, melodic guitar hooks. When it comes to composing lyrics she likes to cast a wide net, drifting between the everyday, the existential and things stuck in the middle.
