Man arrested after utes stolen in Port Augusta, SA

A man has been arrested after he allegedly stole two vehicles in Port Augusta last night, according to SA Police.

At about 9.45pm, a stolen white Ford ute was seen driving on National Highway One by the victim’s son, who reported the incident immediately to police.

The ute was seen heading towards Adelaide, and the police helicopter, PolAir was used to safely monitor the ute as it travelled through the north-western suburbs.

The ute was not pursued, but PolAir officers were able to relay information to patrols on the roads to determine the ute’s movements.

Road spikes were successfully deployed on Waterloo Corner Road at Waterloo Corner, and the man was arrested when he eventually stopped on Port Wakefield Road.

Police will allege that the man stole another ute at Port Augusta, prior to stealing the white ute.

A 30-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with two counts of illegal use of a motor vehicle, failing to stop and driving without due care.

He was refused bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
