Man charged after 16.5kg of cannabis seized during vehicle stop in Hay

A man has been charged after 16.5kg of cannabis was seized during a vehicle stop in the state’s Riverina yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just after 9pm today, police from Deniliquin Local Area Command were conducting patrols on the Sturt Highway, when they stopped a Holden Commodore sedan at a service station on the Sturt Highway at Hay for the purposes of a random breath test.

Police spoke to the driver, a 43-year-old man, and conducted a roadside breath test which returned a negative result, before conducting a search of his vehicle.

During the search officers allegedly located and seized a total of 16.5kg of cannabis with an estimated potential street value of between $112,000 and $143,000.

The man was arrested and taken to Hay Police Station where he was charged with supply prohibited drug,

He was bail refused to appear at Deniliquin Local Court today tomorrow.
