Man charged after house fire and siege in Oakhurst

A man has now been charged following investigations into a house fire and siege in Sydney’s west earlier this month, NSW Police say.

Just before 11.45pm (Tuesday 6 February 2018), police were called to a home on Cook Road at Oakhurst, following reports a man had barricaded himself in a room.

Shortly after, smoke was seen coming from the room and family members evacuated.

Officers from Mount Druitt Local Area Command attended.

A man, allegedly armed with a knife was seen on the roof of a neighbouring home. It is alleged the man made a number of threats and threw tiles off the roof.

Police spoke to the man and just before 12.45am (Wednesday 7 February 2018), he was arrested after jumping off the roof.

It’s alleged that during his arrest he bit an ambulance officer on the arm causing injury.


The 26-year-old man was taken to Nepean Hospital where he remained until his release into police custody at 5pm today (Monday 12 February 2018).

He was taken to Mount Druitt Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire >$15000, destroy or damage property <$2000, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, resist arrest, and being armed with intent to commit indicatable offence.

He was given conditional bail and is due to appear in Mount Druitt Local Court on Wednesday 7 March 2018.
