A man has been charged over a public place shooting in Wollongong yesterday, NSW Police say.
Just after 7am yesterday, a 29-year-old man attended a home on Meadow Street, Balgownie, and threw a small incendiary device onto the driveway.
He then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired a shot in the air before driving from the scene.
Police from Wollongong Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.
About 7.30am the same day, police located the vehicle on Florence Street, Fairy Meadow. It had crashed in to a fence. A sawn off rifle and ammunition were located in the vehicle and seized.
Following inquiries, about 12.25pm, police arrested the 29-year-old man in Rann Street, Fairy Meadow.
He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with seven offences including fire firearm in public place; fire firearm manner likely injure person; possess unregistered firearm; use unregistered firearm; possession of a loaded firearm in public place; intimidation; and drive manner dangerous.
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today.
