Man charged after siege in Doonside

A man has been charged after a siege with police in Doonside yesterday, NSW Police say.

Officers from Blacktown Local Area Command were patrolling Scintilla Grove, Doonside, about 8.20am today, when they observed a man who was wanted by police.

Upon seeing police, it’s alleged the man ran away from officers and climbed onto the roof of a home.

Officers from Blacktown Local Area Command with the assistance of the Police Negotiators, Police Rescue and Bomb Squad and the Public Order and Riot Squad established a perimeter and began to negotiate with the man.

While the man was on the roof, it’s alleged that he removed several roof tiles from the house and threw them towards police, resulting in four police cars being damaged.

About 2.20pm, the 23-year-old man climbed off the roof and was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

The man was charged with aggravated break and enter, stealing, enter enclosed lands with intent, four counts of malicious damage and using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention.

He was refused bail and will appear at Blacktown Local Court tomorrow.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
