Man charged over armed robbery in Wollongong

A man has been charged over an alleged armed robbery in Wollongong today, after handing himself into police, NSW Police say.

Police will allege just after 1.30pm today, a man entered a liquor store on Burelli Street armed with a knife.

He allegedly threatened a shop assistant with the knife and demanded cash, which the assistant complied.

The man took the cash, left the store and was last seen running west on Burelli Street.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

About 3.15pm today, a 23-year-old man attended Wollongong Police Station and was placed under arrest.

He was charged with armed robbery and was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow.
