Man charged over serious assault Surfers Paradise

A man has been charged over the alleged assault of another man in Surfers Paradise in the early hours of this morning, Queensland Police say.

Around 12.25am police were called after a verbal argument escalated to a physical fight between two men on the Esplanade between Hanlon Street and Trickett Street.

During the fight it is alleged a 47-year-old Fortitude Valley man was punched in the head and fell to the ground rendering him unconscious, and then punched several times whilst on the ground. The injured man also sustained serious facial injuries.

The man was transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment to his injuries.

A 25-year-old man from Surfers Paradise has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

He is due to face the Southport Magistrates Court on April 12, 2017.
