Members of the public assist police to arrest man in Parkes

Police who were assisted by members of the public to pursue and arrest a man at Parkes today are appealing for those people to come forward, NSW Police say.

Just before 11.30am today, police attempted to speak to a man outside Parkes Police Station about a stolen motor vehicle.

It will be alleged the man ran from police, with an officer chasing him into Church Street and on to Clarinda Street.

A number of members of the public physically stopped the man as he approached a supermarket on Clarinda Street, allowing the police officer to place him under arrest.

The 19-year-old man was taken to Parkes Police Station where he was charged with illegal use of conveyance and other traffic matters.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Parkes Local Court on Friday 19 February 2017.

Meanwhile, police are now hoping to identify and pass on their appreciation to the members of the public who assisted by stopping the man.

They are asked to contact Parkes Police Station on 6862 9999.
