Mum chooses popular name for daughter- but opted for THIS really bizarre spelling

Making sure her daughter will stand out from the crowd, one mum has thrown out the rule book

The world of popular baby names is a fickle one. What's 'in' one year is 'out' by the next.

Creatively speaking, the bar has also been raised high over the past two decades.

On hundred years ago, the likelihood of someone christening their child 'Apple' was probably slim to nil.

These days, if you're, say, a Game of Thrones fan, there's nothing stopping you from plumping for 'Khaleesi' or 'Arya'.

But that's not to say parents don't spend ages giving it some thought. It's an important decision, but one which is sometimes ruled by the heart.

'Kaitlyn vs KVIIIlyn'

Thought to be of Irish origin, Kaitlyn is derived from 'Catherine' and means 'pure'.

Although Gold Coast mum 'Mavis' loved the name, she decided it needed some tweaks to really stand out and revealed the revised spelling in a magazine spread - the photo of which was uploaded on Imgur .

"I've always loved the name Kaitlyn but hated how popular it was." she was quoted as saying.

"So when I found out I was having a girl, my husband suggested we replace the 'ait' with the Roman numeral symbol for eight!

"Now our daughter is truly unique."

Never a truer word spoken.
