NSW man and woman charged after claiming $650,000 in fraudulent bets

A man and woman will have court today charged after allegedly claiming more than $650,000 in fraudulent bets in Sydney’s west, NSW Police say.

Detectives from Organised Crime Squad’s Casino and Racing Investigation Unit established Strike Force Billa to investigate theft of monies through fraudulent betting tickets.

Following an extensive investigation, a 34-year-old woman was arrested leaving a betting agency at Wentworthville on Sunday 17 July 2016.

Following a search of the woman and her vehicle, strike force detectives located and seized cash and alleged fraudulent betting tickets.

She was taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with 31 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

She was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court today tomorrow.

Shortly after, a 35-year-old man was arrested at a betting agency at Granville, and taken to Parramatta Police Station, where he was charged with 31 counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

He has been granted conditional bail and is also due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 17 August 2016.

A search was subsequently executed at a home at Constitution Hill, where police located and seized items relevant to the investigation, and cannabis and ‘ice’.

Police will allege the pair defrauded the agencies on 31 occasions between 2013 and 2016 to a value of more than $650,000.

Inquiries are continuing.
