NSW police helicopter crew rescue pilot, passenger near Camden

A police helicopter crew have rescued two seriously injured people after a plane crash south of Sydney this morning today., NSW Police say

About 11.20am police from Camden Local Area Command responded to reports of a crash near Kirkham, south of Camden

On arriving they found a four seater aircraft had crash landed in a paddock just off Macquarie Grove Road.

A police helicopter on a training exercise, was nearby and landed soon after the plane crash.

The crew of the police helicopter were able to rescue the 24-year-old male pilot and his 23-year-old female passenger. No one else was on the aircraft, believed to be a Warrior Piper four seater passenger aircraft.

The injured pair were taken to Liverpool Hospital where they are understood to be in a serious but stable condition.

Initial inquiries show the plane had only just taken off from Camden Airport when it developed engine trouble.

Inquiries into the cause of the crash will be conducted by Camden Local Area Command. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified.
