NT Govt Aids Agribusiness in $2 Billion Goal

NT Government

The Territory Labor Government wants to grow our agribusiness industry to over $2 billion.

To support our Agribusiness industry to hit this target, $500,000 is now available through a competitive grants program to facilitate development.

This funding comes under The NT Agribusiness Value-Add Opportunity Grant Program, aligns with the Territory Labor Government's Agribusiness Strategy, which identifies opportunities for the Territory to grow the Agribusiness industry to $2 billion by 2030.

Territory businesses who wish to complete activities that support Agribusiness growth in the NT can apply for funding on a co-contribution basis up to $50,000.

The Value-Add Grant program provides funding to support grant recipients to develop or expand their value-add capabilities, supporting growth in the NT's agribusiness sector, including cross-industry opportunities and industry specific opportunities.

This comes as 65 industry leaders came together in Darwin this week alongside the Territory Government and CSIRO to learn, grow and collaborate on research across the Agriculture and Aquaculture sectors.

The NT Aquaculture Research, Development and Extension workshop was the first of its kind workshop which ran over two days, enabling our most remote industry partners and the research and development sector to work together to discuss the prosperous future of the Territory's aquaculture industry.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Agribusiness and Fisheries, Mark Monaghan:

"The Northern Territory's Agribusiness sector currently sits at $1.3 billion and the Territory Labor Government is going to grow that value to over $2 billion by 2030.

"43% of the Territory's landmass is used for agricultural production- the Value-Add Grant program was developed to support diversification, innovation and efficiencies within the existing agribusiness sector.

"These grants come at an optimal time, with 65 industry leader in Darwin to discuss the future of the Agribusiness sector and how best to develop the industry."
