Occupant detains intruder in Newcastle

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an aggravated break and enter in Hamilton last night. , NSW Police say

About 8.20pm today three occupants were inside their home on Warrah Street, Hamilton when one of the occupants heard noises coming from his bedroom.

The 54-year-old man went to investigate and allegedly found a 58-year-old man standing in the room.

The two became involved in a scuffle resulting in a cut to the younger man’s head.

Family members came to the aid of the occupant and called police.

Officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command arrived moments later and arrested the 58-year-old.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter.

He was refused bail and will appear in Newcastle Bail Court tomorrow.
