Owner of kayak alive and well

The mystery of the unmanned kayak has been solved today after the owner came forward to police, Victoria Police say.

The 21-year-old man from Craigieburn contacted the Water Police after seeing the incident reported in the news.

The fisherman says he was anchored off Port Melbourne when the kayak was swamped by a wave.

He swam ashore believing the kayak had sunk to the sea floor.

It wasn’t until he saw the news footage that he realised it was his kayak and it hadn’t completely sunk.

The kayak was located anchored and partially submerged in the water approximately 150 meters off Sandridge Beach about 5.20pm.
