Packet of crisps that's actually CAKES is latest experiment from baking genius who specialises in mind-boggling snacks

Stuart Thornley has created sweet versions of pork pies, scotch eggs and fish and chips, and describes his new creation as 'like having crunchy slivers of churros'

An imaginative baker who specialises in cakes that 'mess with your mind' is doing just that with his latest creation.

Stuart Thornley makes desserts that look like savoury snacks, and they're going down a treat.

From pork pies, sausage rolls and Scotch eggs, to fish and chips and his latest creation - a packet of crisps - there's nothing the 33-year-old can't make.

His Father's Day special of the cake crisps and pint of Guinness have been in such demand he has now sold out, reports Manchester Evening News.

Stuart, who sells the 'innovative bakes' at his shop Stuart Thornley Cake Design in Dukinfield, said: "I’ve been making the cakes that mess with your mind for a few years now.

"I like to experiment and play about with the possibilities with baking, and also with the cake sector being so competitive I wanted to do something different.

"It all began with the creation of the cake Scotch egg, which came about by accident whilst trying to create Easter cake pops.

"They were hugely popular - and have been imitated many times since - so popular in fact that I ended up making them all year round.

"Inspiration came from there to create other cakes along a similar theme and since then I have made the cake pork pie, cake sausage roll, cake sandwich, cake fish and chips and cake Cornish pasty.

"They're all totally sweet but with the appearance of savoury baked goods.

"I have even made up picnic baskets of them filled with miniature versions for outdoor events that I have a stall at."

Stuart describes his latest addition of cake crisps, which launched a month ago and cost £2.50 a bag, as 'like having crunchy slivers of churros, dusted with infused sugars'.

The Guinness cakes might have sold out but cake lovers can still get their hands on some of Stuart's goodies at his regular stalls at Wilmslow Artisan Market and Stockport Artisan Market this weekend.

The fish and chips, pork pie, sausage roll and Scotch eggs - which have a full Cadbury Creme Egg inside - cost £3 each.

Wilmslow Artisan Market is this Saturday, from 10am to 4pm, at Alderley Road, SK9 1PB.

Stockport Artisan Market is in the covered market hall, Market Place, Stockport, SK1 1EU, from 11am to 4pm on Sunday.
