Police Charge Man After Serious Assault - Unanderra

A man will face court today charged over a serious assault in the Illawarra.

About 10.50pm on Friday (12 April 2024), emergency services responded to reports of an assault at a hotel on Central Road, Unanderra, approximately 6km south-west of Wollongong.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 59-year-old man at the scene.

He was taken to Wollongong Hospital where he is currently in a critical but stable condition.

A crime scene was established, with officers from Lake Illawarra Police District commencing an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, about 4.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 16 April 2024), a 33-year-old man was arrested after attending Lake Illawarra Police Station.

He was charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent and affray.

He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Tuesday 16 April 2024).
