Police continue to investigate Coolaroo shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives have today released CCTV and an image as part of the ongoing investigation into a shooting in Coolaroo earlier this year, Victoria Police say.

The incident occurred near the entrance to an indoor soccer stadium on Reservoir Drive about 7.50pm on Monday, 22 May.

Police were told a 21-year-old Campbellfield man had just finished playing a social game of soccer with friends when he was shot at close range.

He was then taken to hospital with injuries to his upper body and legs.

Given the nature of the incident, investigators are treating the shooting as an attempted murder.

The attack is also believed to have been targeted and no one else was injured during the shooting.

The vehicle believed to have conveyed the gunman to and from the shooting was located burnt out in Atkinson Place, Reservoir about one hour after the incident.

That vehicle was stolen about 2am that morning, about 18 hours prior to the shooting.

When the vehicle was recovered in Reservoir a number of items were removed for further forensic testing.

Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad are today releasing footage which shows a firearm being discharged with a number of people in the vicinity.

Police have spoken to several witnesses but believe there were a number of people present who are yet to come forward.

Detectives are urging those people to make contact with police as they may have information critical to the investigation.

They are also releasing a digital composite image of a man they wish to speak to in relation to the incident.

It’s believed this man was in the white vehicle shown in the CCTV footage.

Investigators are urging anyone with information about the incident or who was at the scene to contact Crime Stoppers.
