Police helicopter nabs five youths in stolen car, SA

Five juveniles have been arrested after being followed by the police helicopter for over an hour this morning, according to SA Police.

Just after 12.30am, Monday 9 January, an off duty police officer spotted a stolen car travelling on Glen Osmond Road, Glen Osmond. The police member lost sight of the stolen white Audi which was last seen travelling north on Portrush Road.

A short time later the car was seen by the police helicopter travelling west on Cross Road and followed from the air across many suburbs in the metropolitan area for approximately an hour.

The car travelled through many suburbs including, Westbourne Park, Marion, Glenelg, Henley Beach, Semaphore, Wingfield, Mawson Lakes and Parafield Gardens. Before PolAir observed the car stop on Jose Court in Para Hills West and five people run from the car and into a house.

With the assistance of police dog Buster, patrols set up cordons around home before conducting a search of the premises arresting five male juveniles without incident.

Arrested was a 17-year-old from Renown Park who was charged with illegal use, drive dangerous to evade police and breach of bail along with a 16-year-old from Croydon, a 16-year-old from Mansfield Park, a 17-year-old from Renown Park and an 11-year-old from Ridleyton who were all charged with illegal use. The five youths have been refused bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide and Elizabeth Youth Courts later today.
