Police Make Arrests - Pursuit In Katherine

Northern Territory Police have arrested 2 people in relation to a motor vehicle pursuit in Katherine this morning.

Just after 10:30pm, police identified a Mitsubishi Triton traveling at high speed southbound on Katherine Terrace.

Katherine general duties attempted a traffic apprehension on the vehicle and a pursuit was initiated when the vehicle failed to stop.

The vehicle continued to travel at high speeds, veering into bushland on the Stuart Highway, where it subsequently collided with a termite mound.

Two adult males fled on foot and police engaged in a short foot chase before arresting the offenders.

Investigations continue into the incident and the involvement of at 18-year-old male passenger.

The 22-year-old male driver has been charged with:

  • Drive high range blood alcohol content
  • Drive vehicle dangerous manner pursuit
  • Not stop after crash
  • Exceed speed limit over 45km/h
  • Drive unregister motor vehicle
  • Drive uninsured motor vehicle

He remains in custody.

Northern Territory Police continue to urge members of the public to report crime of anti-social behaviour to 131 444 or 000 in an emergency.
