Project Update: Chelmsford Place Town Square Upgrade

Leeton Shire Council is pleased to provide a project update on the Chelmsford Place Town Square upgrade, highlighting steady advancements achieved in Stages 1, 2 and 3.

Recent progress included:

Stage 1 Stage 2

• Irrigation completed and commissioned;

• Trees planted;

• Turf laid;

• All lights installed;

• Outer area for dry fountain completed.

• Heritage Band Rotunda nearly complete;

• All demolition works complete;

• Permanent closure of roadway between

Stage 2 and 3;

• Concrete works progressed up to band

rotunda;

• Heritage light poles being reinstated.

Manager Open Space & Recreation, Josh Clyne, said the project is continuing to take shape with focus now being shifted to Stage 2 and 3.

"In Stage 2, concrete works are set to continue past the band rotunda with the restoration works on the heritage-listed bandstand nearing completion. The community can also look forward to the reinstatement of the heritage lights in Stage 3 which underwent careful restoration. Other works will include the installation of trenches for inground services and commencement on the stage area at the base of the water tower," he said.

Cr George Weston, Portfolio lead for CBD Enhancement, acknowledged both the State and Federal Government.

"The Chelmsford Place Town Square upgrade has been made possible thanks to the support of our funders, including the Australian Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and the NSW Government."

"The addition of trees, turf, and lighting in Stage 1 has really brought to life Walter and Marion Burley-Griffin's bold vision for the Square. I'm looking forward to follow the continued progress of what is set to become a genuine community asset," he added.

The Chelmsford Place Town Square upgrade is Stage 3 of the CBD Enhancement Strategy with practical completion expected in mid-2024. For the latest updates and further information on the project's developments, please visit the Leeton Shire Council website.
