Graduating medical students from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine now know where they will train as residents for the next three to seven years. Advisors, students and families gathered this morning in the Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center in Chicago to count down to the official letter-opening.
Media can download interviews of two students who matched, grab clips of speeches from the event and see b-roll of students before and after they opened their letters.
At today's event, 68% of students matched at residency programs affiliated with a top 25 U.S. medical school, marking a record year for Northwestern's program.
In total, 135 students matched in 23 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-certified residency specialties. The most popular programs included: Internal medicine, pediatrics, anesthesiology and orthopedic surgery.
"This is the most exciting and also most ridiculous day," said Dr. Marianne Green, vice dean for education and chair of the department of medical education at Feinberg. "You've all mastered this so terribly well. Each and every one of you has got this."
Match Day is held annually at 159 medical schools around the country to announce the results of the National Residents Matching Program.
