Rescue Of Bushwalker Near Deloraine, TAS

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter today rescued a lost 25 year old Chinese tourist from the Lady Lake area (near Deloraine), Tasmania Police say.

Around 11:30am yesterday the female tourist had embarked on a bushwalk at Western Creek on the Higgs Track to Lady Lake.

On her return from Lady Lake she inadvertently walked off the track, became lost in thick bushland and subsequently phoned 000.

Police and SES Land Search and Rescue teams were mobilised but were unable to locate the woman.

Today the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was activated to assist with the search.

After a brief aerial search the Helicopter crew located the woman in Dale Brook, a small creek that flows north from the Lady Lake area.

A police rescue crewman was winched to the scene during a very high winch operation due to tall trees and terrain.

The woman was then winched from the scene.

She was tired from the ordeal but otherwise uninjured.
