About 11pm today, a man was fishing on the northern side of Nowra Bridge, when he was approached from behind by two men.
Police were told the two men assaulted the 28-year-old fisherman and stole items from a tackle box before running away towards Illaroo Road.
The fisherman was able to make his way to a nearby home where the resident contacted emergency services.
He was assessed by NSW Ambulance Paramedics for bruising and grazes to his head and back and a small stab wound to his abdomen, before being taken to Shoalhaven Hospital in a stable condition.
