Serious Pedestrian Collision – Bathurst Street in Launceston, TAS

At about 5.40pm a collision occurred at the intersection of Bathurst Street and Frederick Street in Launceston between a pedestrian and a passenger bus, Tasmania Police say.

As a result of preliminary investigations police believe that an 18 year old West Tamar man has attempted to run across the intersection against a "don’t walk" sign. In doing so has run into the path of the 54 seat passenger bus travelling north on Bathurst Street.

The man was treated at the scene by members of Tasmania Ambulance Service at the crash scene before being transported to the Launceston General Hospital where he is in a stable condition being treated for serious head injuries.

The driver of the bus, a 59 year old Perth man was not injured.

Police investigations are continuing. Numerous witnesses have already spoken with police at the scene and at this stage no further witnesses are sought.
