Statement On ICAC Operation Hector 30 April

Inner West Council

Inner West Council welcomes the findings by NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) Operation Hector Public Inquiry regarding officers from Transport for NSW, employees of Downer EDI Works Pty Ltd and former employee of Inner West Council, Tony Nguyen.

The investigation was initiated following Council referring the matter to ICAC on becoming aware of concerns regarding Mr Nguyen and has assisted them throughout their inquiry.

Mr Nguyen was subsequently suspended from duties and resigned shortly after a number of allegations were put to him in 2020.

The findings and recommendations outlined in the ICAC report will be reported to Council as well as the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee.

As stated in the report, "IWC has already made various enhancements to relevant systems to improve corruption prevention". Council will implement all 7 recommendations of the report throughout 2024 to ensure that Council continues to strengthen its governance and procurement practices and controls.
