Dept of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications

Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Madeleine King will join Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Agriculture Minister Murray Watt and Minister for Regional Development Kristy McBain in Rockhampton for Beef Australia (Beef Week) 2024.

First held in 1988, Beef Week has grown to become one of the nation's premiere agricultural trade events, with more than 100,000 people attending from around Australia and overseas.

Minister King will meet with industry stakeholders, producers and attend events showcasing Australia's award-winning beef industry.

Beef Week received $6 million dollars in funding from the Albanese Labor Government to help expand the event.

Minister King said Beef Week was an important opportunity for the cattle industry to highlight its significance to the economy.

"Northern Australia makes a massive contribution to Australia's economy and cattle and beef are central to that success," Minister King said.

"Cattle produced across Northern Australia is essential to food security across our region."

Australia's live cattle export trade contributes more than $1 billion annually and employs 1,527 people directly with more than 80 per cent of these jobs in northern Australia.

Northern Australia has more than 12 million cattle, supplying around 90 per cent of the nation's live exports and providing a vital contribution to the domestic market.
