Stolen Vehicle Pursuit in Alice Springs Ends in Arrests

Northern Territory Police have arrested 3 offenders in relation to a stolen motor vehicle and pursuit over the weekend.

A 2007 Grey Toyota Rav 4 was stolen from a residence in Braitling in the early hours of Sunday 29 October 2023. A short time later, the vehicle was sighted driving through the Alice Springs CBD.

A coordinated response from Operation Drina, General Duties, Dog Operations unit, Southern Traffic Unit and Strike Force Viper saw Tyre Deflation Devices successfully deployed spiking 3 tyres on the vehicle.

For the duration of the pursuit, the offenders drove the vehicle on its rims veering back and forth onto the wrong side of the road, with the occupants throwing items at pursuing police vehicles, including fireworks.

The vehicle came to a stop more than 60kms west on Larapinta Drive and the 3 offenders were taken into police custody.

Enquiries are continuing for a further 2 offenders that fled the scene.

An 18-year-old male has been charged with:

  • Driving, using/riding motor vehicle without consent

Another 18-year-old male has been charged with:

  • Driving, using/riding motor vehicle without consent
  • Driving vehicle dangerous manner pursuit
  • Driver with prohibited drug in body
  • Unlicensed driver with alcohol in blood
  • Drive motor vehicle unsafe to drive
  • Fail to give name and address

A 16-year-old male has been charged with:

  • Driving, using/riding motor vehicle without consent

All 3 are remanded in custody to appear in court 30 October 2023.
