Swan Active Midlands Grand Reopening: Youre Invited

Swan Active Midland will reopen with a bang on Saturday at a spectacular public event to celebrate the completion of a $30 million upgrade.

Daylight fireworks, AC/DC and INXS tribute bands, Aboriginal cultural dancing, inflatable challenges, a scavenger hunt, bottomless gelato, face painting, guided tours, giveaways and more will welcome crowds to the new-look facility.

The free event will start at 10am on Saturday, May 11 at Swan Active Midland on Gray Drive, Midvale.

Swan Active Midland was closed to the public in August 2021 to allow for a significant refurbishment and accessibility improvements.

As with many major construction projects in recent years, COVID-related disruptions caused delays, but the highly anticipated reopening is now just days away.

"We can't wait to welcome our community back to Swan Active Midland and show them the results of a lot of hard work," Tanya Richardson, City of Swan Mayor, said.

"This has been a major undertaking for the City and there are so many new features and improvements to discover.

"I'm confident people are going to like what they see."

Swan Active Midland has been the community's home of fitness and fun since it opened in its original form in 1980.

This major refurbishment ensures it will be a contemporary, top-class facility for years to come.

The new gym is four times bigger than the old one, with dedicated change rooms, an appraisal room and a specialised functional training area.

To give a sense of the scale of the refurbishment, the area occupied by the old gym now forms part of the new café.

The café has indoor and semi-outdoor areas for visitors to enjoy, as does the nearby creche.

The indoor sports courts have been upgraded with competition-grade sprung timber flooring ready for the winter sports season.

A new wellness room provides a serene space where members can take part in activities such as yoga, Pilates, meditation and sound healing.

Accessibility has been enhanced, especially in the indoor aquatic area, where the lap pool now has a ramp for wheelchair access.

"There are impressive new features throughout Swan Active Midland, but one of the first things people will notice is the new look – it has a really modern, appealing feel to it," Mayor Richardson said.

"I'm excited for everyone to get in there on Saturday, explore and enjoy the celebrations."
