Taxi driver robbed in Marrickville

Police are appealing for information after a taxi driver was robbed in Marrickville this morning, NSW Police say.

Just before 6am today, the taxi driver picked up two men from Alexandria and drove them to Arthur Street, Marrickville.

The driver confronted the passengers when they tried to leave without paying and he was assaulted by the pair.

The two men then ran from the area.

The taxi driver, aged 49, was treated at the scene before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for treatment of suspected facial fractures.

A crime scene was established and detectives from Marrickville Police Station continue to make inquiries into the incident.

Investigators would like to speak to two men who they believe will be able to assist with inquiries.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
