Teacher charged over inappropriate student relationship, NSW

A female teacher will re-appear at court next month after being charged with child sex offences, NSW Police say.

Detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation following reports of an inappropriate relationship between a teacher and student at a secondary school.

Following extensive investigations, a 33-year-old woman was arrested at Camperdown about 10.15am today.

She was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with indecent assault, and six counts of sexual intercourse with person under care between 17 and 18 years.

Police will allege in court the woman formed an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student at the Sydney school.

The woman was refused bail and appeared at Newtown Local Court today, where she was granted bail to re-appear at the same court at a later date.

The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.

Anyone with concerns about suspected child abuse or exploitation should call Crime Stoppers.
