Teen charged after assaulting officer, NSW

A teenager has been charged following an alleged assault on a police officer in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 7pm yesterday, officers from Police Transport Command were patrolling at Mt Druitt Railway Station when a teenage male failed to produce a valid ticket at the barrier.

Police will allege the 17-year-old youth failed to provide his details and officers attempted to arrest him, NSW Police say.

During the arrest it’s alleged the youth became violent and resisted arrest. During the struggle, the youth knocked a male senior constable to the ground where he lost consciousness for a short time.

Whilst on the ground, it’s alleged the teenager punched the officer in the face.

Police used OC spray and the youth was arrested.

The senior constable suffered swelling and bruising to the face. He was taken to Nepean Hospital for observation and treatment, before being discharged.

The 17-year-old youth was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he was charged with travel or attempt to travel without a valid ticket, assault police officer in the execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and resist officer execution of duty.

He was refused bail and will appear at a children’s court today.
